Biology

A full first-year biology course that includes simulations of real-world experiments, field trips, and immersive simulations of complex biological concepts and processes.

UniVirtual is not another online space where students passively consume material—our platform offers active and experiential learning. We have created highly dynamic exercises, absorbing narratives, and social, collaborative spaces where instructors and students work together in real time. This promotes a profound sense of presence, in stark contrast to the isolation students often feel with traditional online platforms, with no Zoom Fatigue. Every student, regardless of their location, can participate, ensuring a consistent and high-quality learning experience.

(The students) just love it. They embrace it, spend a lot of time here, and they want to come back and do the labs over and over again. They also help each other in the environment, and that to me is a beautiful thing.
— Michele Yeargain, Department of Biology, University of Central Florida
This was an awesome way to learn the labs. A lot of the time I struggle to understand the processes in biology because I simply can’t imagine it. This method was a great way to resolve that problem.

Unlocking Cellular Respiration: Virtual Learning in Action

Cellular respiration is one of the most essential biological processes, yet many students struggle to visualize how it works at the molecular level. To help bridge this gap, our biology course contains high-quality, real-time, 3D animations that bring the whole process to life. These animations not only illustrate each step of the cellular respiration, but they also prepare students for the activities and challenges that follow within our virtual learning platform.

The Role of Narrative in Virtual STEM Subjects

When it comes to learning, a compelling narrative can greatly improve student engagement and improve retention of complex ideas or practices. In this blog, we take a look at some of our science modules and see how gamified learning environments encourage students to learn the material, as well as engage in critical thinking and problem solving using what they have just learned.

Examining the Evidence: Benefits of Virtual Microscope Simulations

Simulation-based training is applied across many fields today, preparing learners for the real thing. Pilots learn the ropes in flight simulators. Healthcare workers practice with virtual patients. And now, students practice with virtual microscopes to be better prepared for the classroom.

How are virtual environments revolutionizing learning?

From lifelike simulations to abstract worlds, virtual spaces help us visualize and interact with things we might never be able to otherwise. How do we make virtual learning effective yet still fun? In this blog, we summarize our main aspirations when converting traditional learning materials into virtual games and activities.
